EAM S. Jaishankar stresses counter-terror focus during high-level talks

India on Monday delivered a firm and unambiguous message to Poland, urging Warsaw to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism and cautioning against strengthening ties with Pakistan without addressing New Delhi’s long-standing concerns over cross-border terror.

The message was conveyed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during discussions with senior Polish leadership, marking a significant moment in India’s diplomatic outreach to Europe amid evolving global security challenges.

Jaishankar’s Clear Message on Terrorism

According to official sources, Jaishankar underlined that terrorism cannot be selectively condemned, stressing that nations engaging with Pakistan must also acknowledge and act against terror networks operating from its soil.

Counter-terrorism cannot be an issue of convenience. There must be zero tolerance,” the External Affairs Minister reportedly told his Polish counterpart, reiterating India’s long-standing position on global terror accountability.

The remarks come at a time when India is intensifying diplomatic efforts to ensure greater international consensus on terrorism, particularly in Europe.

Why Poland Matters to India

Poland has emerged as an increasingly important partner for India in trade, defence cooperation, and EU diplomacy. However, New Delhi remains cautious about European nations expanding strategic or defence ties with Pakistan without factoring in security implications for South Asia.

Indian officials said the discussion was candid but constructive, with Jaishankar also highlighting India’s experience as a frontline victim of terrorism for several decades.

Broader Diplomatic Context

India Poland terrorism talks

The conversation with Poland is part of a broader Indian diplomatic push across Europe, where New Delhi has been urging governments to move beyond symbolic statements and adopt actionable policies against terror financing, safe havens, and extremist networks.

India has consistently maintained that sustained peace and regional stability are impossible without confronting terrorism in all its forms.
